Home Sweet Bossy Home!

“And where do you think you’re going?” Duchess enquired, arms crossed. Walking through the kitchen with a rucksack full of his belongings was Bruno.
“I’m running away.” “You’re always controlling me and I’ve had enough!”
With that, he ran out the door. Duchess sighed. “Dogs these days!” she exclaimed.
Bruno ran all the way to Gizmo’s house, who lived across the road. He rung the doorbell and was greeted by Gizmo himself.
“I’ve run away,” Bruno explained, “Can I please come in?”
“Of course, of course!” Gizmo ushered him in, “Let’s get you settled in!”
Before long, Bruno felt like he was living the high life, sitting on Gizmo's latest couch with Bubba, enjoying a hot chocolate.
“Freedom never felt so good, buddy!” Gizmo exclaimed.
“Duchess won't find you here. You’re safe now.” Bubba assured him.
“You know what," Gizmo reflected, "I’ve needed an extra pair of paws to help me with my latest device!” “I’d use Bubba, but his paws are too big. Your paws are slender! Follow us!”
Gizmo and Bubba led Bruno into the garage. There sat before them was the craziest of contraptions, one meant to capture something large and suspend it in the air.
“What do you need help with?” Bruno enquired.
“We need you to test our new trap!” Gizmo explained excitedly.
“Yeah, you can be the big squirrel!” Bubba chimed in, advancing on Bruno to force him into the trap.
“HUHHHH??? NO WAY!” Bruno yelped. He hightailed it out of there and ran straight back home, with his tail between his legs. He burst through the front door where Duchess was waiting for him.
“I’m sorry Duchess!” he cried, “It was my fault you pushed me into the lake! I’ll never run away again!”
“It’s okay Bruno,” Duchess said comfortingly, giving him a pat on the head, “Now go fetch me a cup of coffee.”
Bruno sauntered happily off to the kitchen. As he poured freshly brewed coffee into a mug for Duchess she called out to him, “Oh! And get me a cookie! And my slippers! …And clean up this house! It’s a disgrace!”
Bruno felt relieved and happy. Duchess wasn't so bad after all.
But here's the sweet and funny part: Bruno stands there and just smiles. Sure, Duchess is still super bossy, but sometimes the comfort of home - even with all its annoying parts - is better than the scary unknown. As they say, better the boss you know than the trap you don't!
