The Piggyback
Share
“Bruno, I need a piggy back,” Duchess whined.
“No, Duchess,” he replied firmly, “We don’t even have that long to walk until we get there.”
Bruno turned back to continue walking up the path that wound through lush greenery toward the lookout they were heading to.
“Bruno, Please!” she cried, “my feet hurt… Brunooooo!” She stamped her feet and threw her hands in the air with frustration. They must have been walking for hours at this point, Duchess thought. Being out in the wilderness and getting dirty and sweaty was not her idea of a relaxing weekend. Bruno carried on walking, ignoring her complaints.
“Bruno!” she cried again. Bruno stopped in his tracks and spun around to face her, annoyed.
“Cut it out, Duchess! We’ve only been walking for 20 minutes. Besides, a little exercise and fresh air will do you good.”
“But my feet hurt so much… I think I’ve broken a toe! And swallowed a bug!”
“I’m not carrying you.”
“Please!”
“No.”
“PLEASE!!”
“NO!!”
Duchess fell to the ground, defeated and threw her head back in a fit.
“Bruno PLEASE let me up! I can’t go any further!”
“There’s no way I’m giving you a piggyback, Duchess! Not ever!”
....
Bruno trudged on with a look of steadfast determination. Not only was he now carrying his heavy pack, but he was also carrying Duchess and her backpack as well.
“Next time, you’re walking the whole way,” Bruno assured her.“Whatever you say,”
Duchess replied peacefully.
