Moving the Goalpost: Bruno's Rat Race

Bruno boasts he'll evict every rat from the alley, setting a wide goal. But when a giant rat shows up, bigger than he imagined, his bravery falters. After a little tussle leaves him needing Duchess's first aid, Bruno rethinks his mission. Suddenly, he's only after the smaller critters, claiming the giant was never his target.

Moving the Goalpost comic

This comic strip humorously illustrates moving the goalposts: Bruno initially aims to tackle all rats but quickly narrows his objective to only the small ones after his encounter with the oversized rodent. It's like when someone says they'll climb a mountain but then decides a hill will do after seeing the peak.

Bruno's adventure teaches us how people change their goals to something easier when the original plan seems too hard, pretending their new goal was what they meant all along.
