Afraid AI Will Outshine Your Kids? Teach Them the One Skill Robots Will Never Have

Are you worried about how your child will thrive in a world that no longer looks like the one we grew up in? A world where AI will do all the work and they won't have the skills to get a job, let alone be happy and successful?

You're not alone. It's the number one fear of many parents and teachers today. Many of us know that our world is rapidly changing and that AI is going to play the major role in our lives.

But we wonder what our kids are going to do in this super-tech world. What role will they have?

But there is good news.

Even though AI is super-amazing at doing many things (crunching data, generating reports, or answering questions based on what is already known) it is missing the one thing that us humans are incredibly good at. And that's creativity.

Being able to create what is new, unique and meaningful. AI is really good at creating what has already been done, pulling information together (that already exists) and making it into something we know and understand (i.e. it can write a summary of a book or calculate a budget in seconds).

But when it comes to making something new, distinct and meaningful, us humans are the only ones that can do that.

Ai simply can't. It is extraordinary helpful but it can't imagine. It can do everyday tasks (accounting, scheduling appointments, or even driving cars) but it can't imagine what could be - we humans have the unique ability to imagine and create.

That's why we need to help our kids think like creators, rather than be passive learners who will get a job and be told what to do. Those jobs will be available less and less. There's no doubt. The jobs of the future are the one's where our kids (and us) will need to create things that AI can't do.

How do we get our kids to become creators?

By teaching them the steps to create things - from learning the basics to applying knowledge, analysing outcomes, and building something new.

Sounds tough but Bloom's Taxonomy is the key to making it simple.

Bloom's Taxonomy teaches kids (and us) the skills we need to become creators. We learn the steps we need to go through to create things and how it all begins with first learning the knowledge and skills (remembering and understanding), and then applying what we've learned, followed by analysing what we know to seeing what works and what does not, and then evaluating what we can do with what we've learned, to finally putting it all together to create something that is meaningful to us and the people around us.

The steps look like this - starting from the bottom!

It is these steps that are the key to thriving in the future. Sure we can keep learning in the way that we have been, but that's not going to lead to success in the future. It's not going to lead to where we play the active role in shaping our own paths.

Only we, as creators can do this.

How "How to Think Big with Bloom's Taxonomy" helps

Bloom's teaches children (and us!) the creator's mindset and what steps we need to do in order to create things. We can't start creating anything until we know and understand what is involved.

It starts at the Remember and Understand levels. For example, your child might memorise the basic elements of a board game, like rules, pieces, and a game board (Remember), and explain how they work together to make the game fun and fair (Understand). Once they grasp these basics, they can Apply them in real life—like sketching a prototype for a treasure-hunt board game to play with friends or family.

Next, they Analyse the results: Why was the game exciting but over too quickly? Were the rules clear, or did the board layout confuse players? This leads to Evaluation, where they decide what’s worth keeping (e.g., a cool treasure theme) and what needs changing (e.g., adding more challenges).

Many of us get stuck in the analyse-and-evaluate loop, hesitant to move forward. The key is to start Creating even before feeling fully ready - because creating teaches us what works. For instance, your child might design a colourful game board with comic-style art or create a short video to explain the rules to players, learning and refining as they go.

And this is why our Bloom's Taxonomy posters and activity workbook is so helpful for children. They teach them the process of learning and then reminds them of the steps they need to go through in order to create things in the world. The colourful posters break down Bloom’s levels in kid-friendly language, perfect for classrooms or homeschool spaces, while the activity booklet includes fun tasks - like creating a comic or solving a real-world problem - that spark imagination and critical thinking.

Without this knowledge, kids risk staying stuck at the lower levels and never realising what they need to do to play an active role in the world they live in.

That's not the type of life we want for our kids. It's not the type of life we want for ourselves. Understanding how we learn is the key to becoming creative thinkers and ultimately, to having control of our lives.
