Duchess's Dark Day

“THE WOLF-BEAR CONFLICT RAGES ON WITH THE DEATH TOLL REACHING NEW HEIGHTS!”
Duchess watched the news in horror. Things went dark around her as she contemplated all that was going on in the world.
"War.. fires and floods… so much destruction… what a dark world we live in…”
“Duchess!” A cheerful voice sang out from around the corner. Bruno came skipping into the room, wagging his tail and looking like he was having the best day of his life. “Duchess! Are you ready for our picnic?”
Duchess looked up, slightly misty eyed. She’d forgotten all about the picnic they’d been planning over the last week.
“Oh of course, the picnic… she perked up, “I almost forgot.”
“Come on!,” Bruno jostled, as though there is no time to waste. “Let’s just go, I've got to show you this place, it's beautiful!”
When Duchess walked into the kitchen, she could see a carefully prepared picnic basket, filled to the brim with the most lovely spread of pies, fruits, sandwiches, cupcakes and lemonade. Her body filled with joy as she contemplated the lovely food and where they were about to go.
As they crested the hill, Duchess's jaw dropped. "Oh, Bruno, it's magnificent!" she exclaimed. Lush grass stretched beneath towering trees, a babbling creek sparkled nearby, and wildflowers painted the landscape in vibrant hues.
"Told you it was special," Bruno grinned, spreading out a red and white checkered blanket. "Mmm, smell those sandwiches!"
As Duchess settled down, a fish leaped from the creek. "Did you see that?" she gasped.
"Really cool, hey," Bruno chuckled, assembling a sandwich. "Cucumber or tuna?"
Duchess smiled, feeling her worries melt away. "You know, Bruno? This is better than I even imagined."
"I knew you would love it," he replied, passing her a sandwich. "Just wait until we go for a swim!"
In "Doom and Gloom," we see how even when the world seems scary with news about wars, plagues and disasters, the joy of a friend and a change of scenery can make a big difference. Bruno shows Duchess that even when things look dark, there are still so many beautiful moments to enjoy, like time spent with a loving friend, yummy picnics and beautiful nature walks. Doom and Gloom teaches us that friends can help us feel better and find happiness, no matter how bad the news tells us things are.
