"Why do we have to do it this way?" "Because that's how it's always been done."
End of discussion. No reason. No logic. Just... tradition.
Someone shuts down a perfectly good idea - not because it's wrong, but because it's new. The old way isn't questioned. It doesn't need evidence. It's been around long enough that people treat it like fact. And anyone who challenges it? They're the problem.
That's Appeal to Tradition. Your learners hear it all the time - at home, at school, online. "Why can't I do it differently?" "Because that's just how we do things." "But why?" "Because we've always done it that way." No explanation. No reasoning. Just a brick wall made of habit.
This 20-page printed activity pack teaches kids to recognise when someone uses the age of a practice as proof that it's correct. Through an illustrated true story, a funny comic, and hands-on activities featuring Duchess and Bruno, learners don't just memorise a definition. They understand the fallacy well enough to catch it in the wild.

THE STORY INSIDE
Every pack starts with a true story from history - not a paragraph in a textbook, but a fully illustrated, multi-page narrative.
This pack features the story of Ignaz Semmelweis, a doctor working in a Vienna hospital in 1847. Women were dying after childbirth at a horrifying rate - 30% in his clinic. Meanwhile, a nearby clinic run by midwives had a death rate of less than 2%. Same hospital. Same conditions. So what was different?
Semmelweis figured it out. His fellow doctors were dissecting dead bodies in the autopsy room and then walking straight into the delivery ward to deliver babies - without washing their hands. Just a quick wipe on a cloth and off they went. Gross.
He begged them to wash with chlorinated lime to kill the smell and the germs. Their response? "We're doctors. Why should we start washing our hands? We've never had to do it before!" They were insulted. They laughed at him. He wrote books, papers, shouted from the rooftops - he even called them murderers. They ignored him.
Semmelweis was right. But tradition won. It wasn't until Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch developed Germ Theory that handwashing finally became standard practice. They proved that invisible germs on our hands can kill - and soap is our first defence. Thousands of mothers died because doctors refused to try something new. Their only reason? "This is how it's always been."

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
Most fallacy resources are a definition on a slide and a matching worksheet. This pack teaches through storytelling. Kids don't just learn what the Appeal to Tradition is - they see it destroy lives in a true historical story, laugh at it in a comic, and then hunt for it in real-world examples. That's how you make a concept stick.
