It started with some girls acting strange. It ended with 19 innocent people hanged.

One small step - and you slip and slide down to your doom. That's the Slippery Slope: the claim that one small action will inevitably trigger a chain reaction leading to catastrophe. No evidence that it will. Just fear that it might.

Your learners hear it all the time: "If I let you stay up late tonight, next thing you know you'll be staying up until 3am every night and failing school!" "If we allow one exception, the whole system collapses!" One bag of chips doesn't mean you'll eat yourself to death - but the slippery slope wants you to believe it does.

This 20-page activity pack teaches kids to spot when someone is using fear of the worst possible outcome instead of actual evidence. Through an illustrated true story, a funny comic, and hands-on activities featuring Duchess and Bruno, learners don't just memorise a definition. They understand the fallacy well enough to catch it in the wild.

THE STORY INSIDE

Every pack starts with a true story from history - not a paragraph in a textbook, but a fully illustrated, multi-page narrative.

This pack features the story of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. It started with a few girls acting strangely - shaking, screaming, and twisting their bodies. One of them, Abigail Williams, claimed invisible forces were pinching and hurting her. When adults asked who was responsible, the girls pointed to people in the town.

Instead of carefully looking at evidence, the townspeople feared the worst and slid straight down the slippery slope. "If these girls are right about witches, there must be more!" "If your neighbour defends them, maybe they're a witch too!" "If we don't stop them now, the devil will take over!" The accusations spread like wildfire. Even respected citizens like Rebecca Nurse were targeted. Nineteen innocent people were hanged.

The trials only ended when outside ministers pointed out the faulty reasoning and demanded real evidence of guilt. The Salem Witch Trials are the reason we have the "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" legal principle today.

The pack closes with a two-word question your learners can use the next time someone predicts disaster from a single small step: "How, exactly?" Because being afraid of the worst possible outcome isn't proof.

WHAT'S INSIDE

📖 Illustrated Historical Story - The true story of the Salem Witch Trials and how slippery slope thinking spiralled from one accusation into mass hysteria and 19 executions, told through vivid illustrations across multiple pages.

🎨 Original Comic - Duchess and Bruno navigate the Slippery Slope in a funny, relatable scenario. Followed by a "Break It Down" analysis section that connects the humour to the concept.

🔍 Real-Life Examples - Spot the fallacy in advertising, social media, news, and politics. Drawn from situations your learners actually encounter.

📝 Slippery Slope Breakdown - Clear definition, worked examples, and activities to build mastery.

✏️ Interactive Activities - Code Breaker puzzle, Match the Fallacy challenge, The Great Word Hunt, and a Draw Your Own Comic page where learners create their own fallacy scenario.

🐾 Hidden Gizmo Hunt - A sneaky character hidden in the pack that kids love finding. Small detail, big engagement.

📋 Answer Sheet - For teachers, parents, and group leaders. No extra prep needed.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT

Most fallacy resources are a definition on a slide and a matching worksheet. This pack teaches through storytelling. Kids don't just learn what the Slippery Slope is - they see it destroy lives in a true historical story, laugh at it in a comic, and then hunt for it in real-world examples. That's how you make a concept stick.
